Nick is a Senior Vice President in Mercury’s Illinois office where he brings more than a decade of diverse experience in politics, state government, business development, public relations, marketing, and communications.
Before joining the Mercury team, Nick worked for eight years as a Vice President of Marketing in the agriculture manufacturing industry where he oversaw all aspects of marketing, communications, reputation management, and leveraged out-of-the box, multi-channel marketing strategies to deliver significant revenue growth and elevate his company’s profile to a nationally known, well-respected brand.
During his time with the business, he formulated highly targeted and optimized search engine marketing (SEM) campaigns to improve overall brand name recognition, increasing impressions by 2,361% at a 54% lower cost than the industry average. Website engagement also grew by 246% during his tenure.
Bustos developed outreach strategies to elevate the CEO’s name recognition as one of the most well-known, respected, and recognizable farmers in American agriculture, and he oversaw event outreach, which included exhibits at more than 16 national trade shows annually.
Prior to working in the private sector, Nick spent several years in state government, working in various capacities for the Illinois Governor and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, the state’s business arm, where he focused on small business development growth through the creation of tailored marketing strategies for enterprises to expand to overseas export markets.
He has worked in and advised various political campaigns at the local, state, and federal levels.
Nick was born, raised, and educated in Illinois and understands Midwestern values and politics. Coming from a long line of public servants, spanning more than a half-century, Nick knows how government works, how to make connections, nurture relationships, and find solutions to complex problems.
His credentials demonstrate that he is an exceptional sales professional with a well-respected reputation by both Democrats and Republicans in the private sector and state and federal governments.
